Nepal Tourism News

Nepal Tourism Board, in cooperation with Nepal Airlines Corporation, participated in the Nepal Trade and Tourism Exhibition 2009 held at Hyatt Plaza Shopping Mall, Doha, Qatar from 21st till 23rd May 2009 under the aegis of Embassy of Nepal, Qatar. NTB's presence in the exhibition was particularly targetted at propagating the message of safe and peaceful Nepal. Likewise, in a bid to woo the Gulf travellers, Nepal was also portrayed as a destination with quite a few soft adventure activities on offer. Also, the message of improved connectivity of the Gulf with the Nepalese capital was disseminated. In the inaugural session of the exhibition attended by diplomats, media representatives and members of the NRN community based in Doha, the Chief Guest Mr. Naseer Ahmad Al Meer, Board Member of the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry remarked, "I am very happy that the Nepalese Embassy has organized this exhibition. We in Qatar like cultural exchanges with communities that are actively participating in the Qatar's growth. Nepal is definitely one of them." He further added, "I think that Nepal has great tourism potential and people in Qatar need to know about it. I also hope that the exhibition will be bigger next year with more exhibitors from Nepal." The participating exhibitors were Nepal Tea Development Corporation Limited, Yak and Yeti Enterprises Pvt. Ltd., Bilakshana Handicraft Industry, Om Shiva classical Woolen Centre and Woodland Import and Export. An estimated 2000 visitors visited the stalls over the 3-days period. NTB stall received an enthusiastic response and queries concerning safety, security, accessibility and amenities were raised by most of the visitors, Middle East visitors are passionate about travelling - informal sources quote nearly a quarter of the a year is spent vacationing on different exotic locations around the world by native Qataris. Such a tendency, with the affluent expat Community in Qatar, could generate a fair deal of tourist movements to Nepal as well - if a focussed, targetted and continuous effort is made - both on the consumer and the intermediary level. Such optimism was reflected by all key stake bearers including Embassy of Nepal, NRN community, Nepal Airlines Corporation, Media, Travel Tour intermediaries.
